Misfits

Misfits is a horror punk band formed by Glenn Anza Olone (Glenn Danzig) and Gerald Caiafa (Jerry Only) in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey. Gleen was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe, and his band took the name of the last film The Misfits Marilyn. The lyrics and the band's early drawings focus on the retro science fiction, horror films, and porn films.

Initially Misfits songs sound melodic. Tenor Glenn vocal character as a singer opere. Chorus songs originally misfits are also likely to singalong, especially Danzig keyboard with a touch of distortion.

With the release of the initial album of Misfits "Earth AD", they have developed into a hardcore punk band, where the vocal sound that Glenn joined the firm voice shred guitar, bass and drums. It's important that early Misfits as a band is a mixture of New Jersey and Italy who adapted Punk in a strange way, d outside the tradition of punk bands ever. Jerry and Doyle find the money for the band by working on a family farm, and then find a job in Vernon Township knife company. Misfits are joining the community of punk bands New Jersey, creating their own small local scene, while waiting for a tour in New York and expanding to all U.S. states, as a form of gratitude for their loyal audience response, which then was called "Fiend Club" .

Misfits disbanded in 1983, after issuing several singles and albums, all of which they do with the DIY ethic, and circulated by way of selling themselves, these records are very limited, and is now the target of the collector. They are often dressed up with a terrible way when the show took place, and bassist Jerry Only devilock find a hairstyle which is often used until now.

In January 1977, after several garage bands that mostly songs from Black Sabbath, Danzig is a 21-year-old thinks that it is time to create something serious and original. As a tribute to Marilyn Monroe, he named his musical project final movie of Marilyn Monroe, The Misfits. Weeks, Glenn wrote songs and exercises with friends old band, looking for members of the right to turn his ideals. The first member of the band consisted of Jimmy Battle on guitar, his old band members Manny Martinez on drums, Diane DiPiaza on bass, and Glenn Danzig himself on electric piano and vocals. Somehow, about a month after their practicing, Jimmy and Diane left the band. In need of a new band, Manny suggested that his friend, Jerry Caiafa tried first to fill the position of the base. A football player who is very popular in the city of Lodi school level, Jerry, who had just received a Christmas gift bass guitar and he's just learning it for two months. Although Jerry talent in playing the bass is not that great, Glenn accepted him into the band, and taught him how to play bass. After three months of training, three to record their first single, entitled "Cough / Cool. The single contained two keyboard completely different with the music of The Misfits is now known. The title track is very somber and poetic, and reminiscent of the songs from The Doors. They released the song through their own record label that they give the name Blank Records.

October 1977, punk bands from the UK, such as The Damned and New York punk band, The Ramones, giving a huge influence on The Misfits. They decided to take their music further led to punk to add a guitarist, Franche Coma, and eliminates the keyboard sounds, and make a frontman Glenn Danzig punk band that is antique. Their songs in the album 'Static Age' was the most melodic, concise and powerful sounds of punk bands at that time. They no longer lift porn themes in their lyrics for a few years since then, and their lyrics became more leads to the depiction of the effects of television, will distrust the authorities, and the attraction of sex and violence. At the end of 1977, Glenn and Jerry decided that Manny was no longer invited to work together, and asked him to leave the band. He was replaced by Jim Catania, often called "Mr. Jim ", who had played with Glenn in a previous band.

At this time The Misfits caught their first big break. Mercury Records wanted to Blank Records for a subdivision, but Danzig has been a step ahead in business and had patented the name Blank Records itself. Nevertheless contacted Glenn and offered him 30 hours of free time in a professional studio, in exchange for full use of the Blank Records. Glenn accepted the offer, and in January 1978, the band went to New York to record their first full album in a professional studio.

Seventeen songs have been recorded, by presenting a unique combination of sounds of early rock art with that of leading to punk music which they have used to play. After the album was complete, the band offered it to various labels but no one was interested shopped their album release. The album was released and remained dormant until in 1995, which eventually issued as a CD album 'Static Age'. With no one interested in their album, the band decided to take four tracks from it and release it themselves as an EP. In June 1978, the Bullet EP. issued with their new record label, Plan 9, in which Glenn Danzig took the name of Ed Wood movie "Plan 9 From Outer Space '.

At this time Glenn and Jerry decided they wanted to bring the image of the band on the theme of leading to a horror film. Glenn began to write more songs inspired from cheap horror films and science fiction films. Both began to take their performance style with a look more towards the styles of ghosts, Jerry use dark makeup around his eyes and Glenn painting bone drawing on his clothes. The band started to play more frequently and started small tours of the Bullet EP. On October 1978, when a small tour through Canada, Franche Coma decided he could not handle touring and quit the band, even before the tour was complete. Guitarist Rick Riley stepped in temporarily to fill the guitarist for the rest of the tour it's wrong. Mr. Jim was not fond of the band that led to the horror film, and he decided to leave the band once the tour is completed.

In two months, Glenn and Jerry recruited two new band members, drummer Joey Image as, and Bobby Steele to fill the guitar. At this time, Jerry began his hairstyle which became the official hairstyle of the band, who named devilock. In December 1978, after less than two months, the band with new members began playing shows again. During 1979, further develop horrornya elements of their music and their performances, creating a new music genre that became known as horror punk. Glenn and Jerry take a picture of the mascot of the skull of an old poster in 1946 TV series, 'The Crimson Ghost' for The Misfits. The band released two more releases of their own Plan 9 label, 'Horror Business' EP. and a song 'Night of the Living Dead' which got pretty good response. They began to build a fan base is small but loyal and decided to start a fan club, which they called the Fiend Club. Glenn Danzig Fiend Club was set up from the basement in his mother's house, where he began making t-shirts The Misfits, distribute recordings of The Misfits, The Misfits out merchandise catalogs, books, events guide, and reply to letters from the fans of the Misfits, the Misfits make it actually run the band with the DIY ethic.

With their popularity slowly began rising, many people are beginning to realize that The Misfits was to be the American band of the British punk band, The Damned, whose frontman of The Damned, Dave Vanian, took the style of classic vampire and sang in a voice a jarring and powerful. On June 26, 1979, The Misfits opened for The Damned in New York. Before the show, Jerry spoke with Dave Vanian about the possibility of The Misfits doing a tour in England with The Damned.

In November 1979, the band flew to England for their tour with The Damned. However Dave Vanian actually do not think Jerry is too serious and he was surprised by the presence of Jerry at the doorsteps of Dave Vanian. Instead of turning The Misfits away, Dave tried his best to arrange to take part in a tour of The Damned. But The Misfits were not happy with the situation. After playing only two gigs, The Misfits dropped off the tour. They can only go back to America at the end of December, and so The Misfits were forced to spend time in the UK. Jerry spent most of his time with Sid Vicious' mother, who he had befriended after Sid's death. On December 2, Glenn and Bobby went to see a show in London, where they were harassed by skinheads while standing in line to enter the theater. Glenn break the glass and use it to attack the skinheads behind it, while Bobby ran to ask for help. After police arrived, somehow, Bobby and Glenn was arrested on charges of "threatening behavior actions'. In an interview with Revolver magazine in 2005, Glenn went into greater detail about the event. He said the police found a knife in his possession and accused him of being "The Ripper" which at that time had been stalking the area. The police began to beat him and Glenn fought back. He claims he did considerable damage to the police before they were finally able to subdue him. Glenn and Bobby then spent two nights at the Brixton prison, a district of London, during which time Glenn wrote the lyrics to the song The Misfits "London Dungeon".

After the failed European tour, Joey Image decided to leave the band, and later formed a band called The Mary Tyler Whores. Upon their return to America, The Misfits released the "Beware EP 'Plan 9 records and decided to take a break for a while to rethink the next step, so that such incidents do not happen again in the UK. After resting for about 4 months, Arthur Googy was recruited as the new drummer. At that time the younger brother, Jerry Doyle, who is a huge fan of the band, started learning to play guitar with help from Glenn and Jerry. The band started to make preparations to make a full album, which they plan to be issued through Plan 9 record. In August 1980, they went into the studio and recorded twelve songs. Jerry began to persuade Glenn that Doyle would be better for bands than Bobby Steele. Doyle began to practice with the band and even entered the studio to record his own guitar tracks for the twelve Misfits song they had recorded earlier. Bobby has said that at the time, Jerry would purposely neglect to tell him no training schedule, just to make Bobby look bad. But Jerry did not admit the allegations. Finally, in October 1980, shortly before the band's annual Halloween show, Jerry informed Bobby that he was being replaced by Doyle, who was then 16 years old. A few months after that Bobby Steele formed a punk band called The Undead. On Halloween of 1980, what many people consider to be the popularity of all members of the Misfits classic.

After only playing a few shows with the new, the band took a break for 6 months. During this break they selected three songs from the twelve songs they had recorded and released the 3 Hits From Hell 'EP. (In 2002, Caroline Records plans to release the whole song in an album which they called 12 Hits From Hell ', but the release was so because the demand for Jerry and Glenn Danzig himself). During 1981, The Misfits continued to go into the studio to record their songs which will be released as an album, which they planned on calling 'Walk Among Us'. Although they had planned to release the album through their own record label, Plan 9, they get an offer out of their estimates from Slash Records to release their album through the label. The band accepted the offer and decided to work on re-recording them before Slash Records released their album. On Halloween 1981, the band released a single 'Halloween' by Plan 9 record, which contains from 2 additional tracks from their full album they had recorded the previous summer.

In 1981, Glenn wrote the song "Archangel" for a duet with the lead singer of The Damned, Dave Vanian. However, due to scheduling, Dave Vanian never recorded his voice and sang for the band, until 1983, Glenn decided to record a song to the next band Danzig after the Misfits.

In March 1982, Ruby / Slash Records released the first album The Misfits 'Walk Among Us' and sold in bulk to the crowd. Album 'Walk Among Us' then believed by some many fans of The Misfits is the most important album in the history of the band, is also one of the best punk album of all time. The band began playing shows again after nearly a year is. They started to become famous for and terrible performances menyeleneh. Doyle was a sports lover like her sister, and together with his sturdy body shape looks like a ghost, he made himself like a carpenter who has died. Among the brothers there was a ghost who sang with Glenn Danzig manner, and run around destroying stage or crawling around the floor, often cast a blow to the audience and receiving a blow back from the audience. Although a small body of Glenn Danzig, and the height is approximately 5'5 "or 5'6", but he liked the noise, fear the audience will enjoy themselves, and often violent.

Perhaps violence in Misfits of the most famous is the shows in San Francisco while on 10 April 1982. at the time the show some people in the crowd began throwing beer cans at the stage. After Doyle's head almost hit by a full beer can, he pounded his head on his guitar towards the audience, which then caused a huge riot.

A few days later, on 15 April, The Misfits stopped to eat at Mc Donalds. Arthur wants Googy was two cheeseburgers, but Glenn told him that they have started to run out of money and that he could only get a cheese burger. Tensions started to rise, and the two came close to exchanging blows. Arthur left the band and The Misfits had to cancel his plans to record their next EP, which they called "Earth AD" In need of a drummer, they offered the position to Doyle classmate, Eerie Von, which has been a photographer for The Misfits . Eerie reluctantly turned down the offer because he had already committed to play drums with a local band Rosemarie's Babies. Black Flag vocalist, Henry Rollins, who has been friends with The Misfits during their west coast gigs, informed ex-Black Flag drummer, ROBO, that The Misfits were in need of a drummer. In July 1982, Robo joined The Misfits.

Doyle graduated High School and began working full time at his father's machine shop with Jerry. They used their earnings to purchase new equipment (as they tended to smash theirs on a weekly basis), to fund The Misfits tours, rent a recording studio, and fund the album-making process. When they seek funding for the advancement of the band, Glenn fans care associations, Fiend Club, and make new songs for the band. A common misconception is that Glenn only wrote lyrics and sang for The Misfits. Actually, Glenn is a master musician who can create a variety of instruments and songs and lyrics himself, and then he taught them to his other band members at practice, where the maturation of the songs he makes. The gym is usually carried out in Jerry's garage, which they referred to 'The Pit'. Glenn was often irritated when people assume he only sang for the band, and not regard it as the band's creative force. To remedy the situation in the future, Glenn decided to give a name for his next band project 'Glenn Danzig "or simply Danzig.

In September 1982, The Misfits preoccupied with large-scale tour with their friends, The Necros be the opening band for their tour. During the tour, The Misfits stopped by a studio to record their instruments for the Earth AD EP while Glenn slept. On October 17, the band was arrested in New Orleans on charges of theft of the tomb, which was rampant at the time of the search for the tomb of Marie Laveau Voodoo actors. The Misfits denied the charges, and a witness reportedly attested that they had not even entered the cemetery gates. The band bailed themselves out of jail and skipped court to drive to their next performance in Florida. Upon returning from the tour, The Misfits released an album of live material called "Evilive '.

During this time The Misfits Glenn will be increased. He thought that the couple members of his band was still less to bring his musical visions to life, and he thought they were wasting their money by destroying their instruments constantly. He was also unhappy with the music from the album "Earth AD" is dirty and more leads to speed metal. He began writing songs for a new band project, Danzig, but he then changed his name to Samhain, after the ancient incarnation of Halloween.

On July 1983, the band entered the studio to the songs on 'Earth AD They decided to record two new songs and add them on the album, with it all became closer to the full album better than The Misfits. Glenn decided to record two songs that he made to Samhain, 'Bloodfeast' and 'Death Comes Ripping ". The resulting album was "Earth AD / Wolfs Blood ', a gritty, where hardcore and punk rock, which are none of the members were quite satisfied with the outcome of the album. In August, after a series of arguments with Glenn, ROBO decided to leave the band. Glenn Danzig further away so did not have the spirit of The Misfits and began to audition musicians for his new band project that he will soon form.

October 29, 1983, The Misfits played their yearly Halloween show in Detroit, Michigan. Glenn has selected Brian Damage to be the new drummer of The Misfits. However, Brian got drunk before the show and disrupt performances of songs by The Misfits. After several songs Doyle The Misfits chaotic escorted Brian off the stage and leave setnya drum, drummer for the Necros last few songs of the Misfits' bring on the show. The band members were visibly upset with each other and Glenn informed the audience that this would be the last show for The Misfits. The next day the band members go home without saying a word to each other and left the band for a better life.

After separation of the Misfits, Glenn Danzig focused on his new band, Samhain, a darker and more occult than the Misfits. Meanwhile, Jerry Only and his brother Doyle moved to Vernon, New Jersey, where they work full time in their father's machine. At that Jerry focused on his family and his baby daughter, Kathy. He became more serious about his Christian faith, and that he regretted some of the time with The Misfits. He watched as Danzig continued popularity with Samhain, a band that Jerry viewed as band-oriented Satanism and anti-Christianism. In 1987, Jerry decided to form a band that can fight the dark path chosen by Danzig. By Doyle, Jerry (who changed his stage name to "Mo the Great") started writing songs for a Christian heavy metal band by taking the image of the barbarian troops, which he named Kryst The Conqueror. Then they created the "Doyle Fan Club" to help spread the word about his new band. During the process of writing and recording songs for the album, they unite their instruments for the purpose of the sound is more emphasis on guitar and bass. After the music was recorded, they hire a vocalist, Jeff Scott Soto (who had done vocals for Yngwie Malmsteen), to record vocals for the album. Jeff was forced to remain there to give his name so that no confusion of bonds album. To hide idebtitasnya Jeff wrote on the album as Kryst. Despite Jerry's efforts, Kryst the Conqueror failed to get results. The album was never fully released and the band that never get any chance to do the show.

In 1987, the band has gained status as a legendary band, and band Danzig, Samhain, signed to a major label. The catalog of the former band has been remade and sold merchandisenya sells. By this time, Jerry Only contacted Glenn about the demand of the Misfits' royalties, beginning a struggle for the royalties in the legal battle that lasted several years. Jerry concedes that Danzig wrote nearly all the songs and music of the band, but he also feels that he and Doyle wrote 25% or even 30% of the music the band, and is entitled to compensation from the contribution which he did. On the other hand, Glenn continues to feel that he wrote all the songs and their creative input was minimal.

At the end of 1988 the formation of a new band Danzig band released their first album with the title of Danzig, and not until five years later, in 1993 Danzig became very popular as a live video of Danzig song, 'Mother', a hit on MTV, introducing thousands new fans of Danzig on the first catalog of Samhain and the Misfits. At that moment a lot of punk bands who've been doing reunion tours, earning millions of dollars. Jerry and Doyle discuss the possibility of a reunion tour of The Misfits to Glenn, but Glenn refused by hiring security escort them can no longer approach him. Jerry decided to cease his pursuit of the royalties, but finally in 1995, Jerry and Glenn can resolve the issue outside of court, with Jerry's decision is entitled to wear the name and re-staging of The Misfits also the rights to the recordings from the Misfits the foregoing, in spite of it he had to share the royalties from the merchandise trade of the Misfits with Glenn Danzig.

Not long after that Jerry and Doyle then re-form the band, recruiting Michale Graves on vocals and Dr. Of Sardonica Chud on drums. The new incarnation of The Misfits (sometimes called 'Newfits',' ressurected Misfits ", or" Misfits 95 ") issued a second full album, 'American Psycho' and 'Famous Monsters' as a collection of rare and songs are not released from" resurrected "Misfits tracks, until Michale Graves and Dr. Chud left the band on October 25th, 2000 at a performance at House of Blues in Orlando. Doyle then took steps to no longer play a role as well, Jerry took over lead vocals to his bass duties, and recruited punk veterans Dez Cadena of Black Flag, and Marky Ramone of The Ramones to undertake a Misfits 25th Anniversary Tour, which only lasted for 3 years .

Freed from the bonds contract from the Misfits to Universal's Geffen and Roadrunner, and Misfits trust John Cafiero formed Misfits Records and their new label with two releases, the debut album for Americans of Balzac (a horror punk band from Japan is heavily influenced by the Misfits and Samhain), and a new Misfits album featuring the songs of the '50s classic rock, 'Project 1950'. The album featured not only the band, Only, Cadena and Ramone, but prominent appearances from 60's pop chanteuse Ronnie Spector and Blondie keyboardist Jimmy Destri.

Meanwhile Michale Graves and Dr. Chud had formed his own band, which had released an album before disbanding in 2004. Michale Graves sang in Gotham Road. Currently, Graves started his solo project.

On February 28, 1 and March 2, 2005, Glenn Danzig performed a half hour to sing classic songs from the band, with guitar accompaniment was none other than Doyle. It was the first time the two have performed together in 20 years, and the first time Doyle has taken the stage since he went on hiatus. This show was rumored as reunian between Jerry, Doyle and Glenn, although Glenn has repeatedly made statements to the public that it is merely gossip. Glenn and Doyle plan on performing more shows together, and Glenn has stated that it is the closest thing to a Misfits reunion of the truth.

Lately, Marky Ramone has left The Misfits is the membership-25, and the newest member of The Misfits is Robo, formerly of the Glenn Danzig-era Misfits, and originally from hardcore punk band Black Flag. A full European tour has been booked with this new lineup, and some dates that have been selected to perform shows in America have been announced. But like the previous tour to England could not be done because there is a problem with Robo visa, and eventually the band could not play at the City Invasion. But the tour of The Misfits in the UK has succeeded in September.

So is Doyle will return to play with Glenn for Blackest of the Black tour, but the date of play has not been established.

The influence of the music is now very big on the movement of punk rock music and rock music in general, sometimes they take the view that harms them and sharp criticism. Myriad bands have imitated The Misfits' style, such as Blitzkid, which is well-known bands such as horror punk. Psychobilly has various similarities with horror punk. Various bands have recently surfaced, although in some bands can not be referred to as horror punk, are still heard clearly and visibly influenced by The Misfits. These bands include, most notably, bands such as AFI, Tiger Army, Dead Future, American Werewolves, Alkaline Trio, Cradle of Filth, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Avenged Sevenfold, and The Murderdolls. Many musical groups that seem far from the band, but they reveal the Misfits is a very big influence for them, bands like Metallica and Guns' N Roses.

Other bands that flatters The Misfits are Slayer, Pantera, NOFX, and many bands today. Most hardcore bands, punk, and emo of New Jersey, such as My Chemical Romance and The Banner, The Misfits was declared the greatest influence them in every way. Breakcore artist from Winnipeg, Venetian Snares considers the Misfits a huge influence to all areas of art today.
