The Clash

The Clash were a British rock music group formed in 1976 as the initial wave of punk rock. Along with a stream of punk rock, they experimented reggae, ska, dub, funk, rap and rockabilly. Some of their recording career in the band, The Clash consisted of Joe Strummer (lead singer, rhythm guitar), Mick Jones (guitar, vocals), Paul Simonon (bass, background singer, so sometimes the lead singer) and Nick "Topper" Headon (drums, percussion). Headon left the group in 1982, and internal problems make Jones left the following year. The band continued with new members, but finally disbanded in early 1986.

In a short time, they proved themselves as the best punk band. Their skill ability directs them to the album with a variety of musical genres from punk, hard rock, rockabilly to reggae and ska. In contrast to the simple lyrics Ramones and the Sex Pistols a nihilistic lyrics, lyrics of the Clash show a broad political maturity. Accompanied by an intensive stage action, the Clash became the only British punk band that conquered America and the changing lifestyle and fashion a generation. Not surprisingly, in the era of the late 1970s and early 1980s, The Clash greeted the media as the world's greatest band. This group was formed in London in 1976 and consisted of Joe Strummer on vocals and rhythm guitar, Mick Jones on vocals and lead guitar, Keith Levene on lead guitar, Paul Simonon on bass and vocals and Terry Chimes (or Tory Crimes) on drums. Joe Strummer had previously played in a pub rock band The 101er, while Mick Jones and Paul Simonon playing in proto-punk band London SS. Upon appeal manager Bernie Rhodes, then Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Keith Levene met Joe Strummer after a gig and invite him to join by saying, "You are a great band but you sluggish." Strummer agreed to join. The name Paul Simonon of The Clash is recommended because it is a word that often appears in the paper. Once formed, Keith Levene left the Clash after a gig before the band made a record with no apparent reason. He later joined the Public Image Ltd.. The first gig was held in 1976 by supporting the Sex Pistols. After that, The Clash joined CBS. CBS releases the first single "White Riot" and The Clash's first album in 1977 in the UK with considerable success. At first, CBS is planning to release the album in the U.S., but after The Clash's version of the UK became the best-selling import album of all time in the U.S., they also release the album in the U.S. version in 1979. After the first album, drummer Terry Chimes was replaced Nick "Topper" Headon, a powerful drummer. Headon was previously only want to play while with the Clash before finding a better group. But not long after, the band looks great potential and Headon were settled until 1982, a period the most creative and successful for The Clash. The second album, Give 'Em Enough Rope produced Sandy Pearlman, is the first album by Headon of The Clash. Pearlman was Blue Oyster Cult was very impressed by the accuracy of rhythm and mention Headon "The Human Drum Machine". Rope was released in 1978 and debuted at No. 2 on the UK charts but failed to get into the top 100 U.S.. Like other punk group, The Clash protested lifestyle monarchy and the nobility in the UK and in other parts of the world. However, unlike other punk bands, The Clash did not adopt the sentiments of nihilism and vice versa, they show some solidarity to the movement of liberalism that are active at the time. Political thought they were routed explicitly through the lyrics, like the song "White Riot" which counsels the young white participate in political activities such as the young black, "Career Opportunities" to protest high unemployment in the UK at the time and "London's Burning "criticizing the arrogance of certain parties. In one show Rock Against Racism which is coordinated by the Anti-Nazi League in 1978, Strummer wore a t-shirt controversy with the words "Brigate-Rosse". He later menjelaskankan use t-shirts are not intended to support left-wing terrorists, but to draw attention to their existence. After that, Strummer still feel bad for what happened and wrote the song "Tommy Gun" to support non-violent protest. In addition to direct involvement in the activities of the Anti-Nazi League and Rock Against Racism, the Clash offered support for the Sandinistas in South America. While making the 1979 album London Calling, The Clash tried hard to maintain punk energy while improving the quality of the game. They occupied a position of great fame achieved so as not within the old fans, who often invited into the back room after the show. London Calling title is taken from the statement of the American broadcaster "This is London Calling" during the Second World War. The song "London Calling" tells the bleak English at that time and urged listeners to get out of drug dependency and fight for a new destiny. The Clash are considered as a band and broad-minded ideology for intellectual listeners. They do not work entirely for the money. Although at the time of the peak, the price of tickets and souvenirs kept affordable. They require that CBS sell the double-album London Calling and triple-album Sandinista! with single-album price is 5 pounds at the time. CBS agrees with the price for London Calling and fix the price six pounds to the Sandinistas, without royalty provided for the Clash in the first sale of 200,000 units. The principle of value for money makes them owe it to CBS and has just reached breakeven in 1982. London Calling is seen as the pinnacle of success by critics of The Clash. In addition to the style of punk music, this album displays a variety of musical styles including games rockabilly, reggae and ska. Ska music eventually became a movement in the UK and the world. London Calling is considered as one of the best rock album ever made by almost all media. Triple-album Sandinista followed in 1980, which sounds the Clash play more musical styles, from rockabilly, reggae and dub to jazz ("Look Here"), chamber music ("Rebel Waltz"), hip-hop ("The Magnificent Seven ") up to a set of tape loops (" Mensforth Hill ") a la" No Revolution. 9 "by The Beatles. Fans were confused and sales were down, but the opposite happened in the U.S.. After the Sandinista! released, The Clash their first world tour that includes Asia and Australia. In 1982, the Clash back with their best-selling album, Combat Rock, with two popular singles "Rock the Casbah" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go" who break into the Top 10AS and the UK. The song "Ghetto Defendant" featured poetry readings by Allen Ginsberg, American poet of the Beat Generation era. After Combat Rock, The Clash began disintergrasi. Headon was fired for heroin addiction but it was officially announced as political differences. Original drummer Terry Chimes are invited to join in some of the tour. Strummer and Jones began to quarrel. Chimes left the band after Combat Rock tour 1982-1983 with confidence bands can not run again with the ongoing conflict. In 1983, The Clash drummer looking for an intensive, Pete Howard was recruited and played with The Clash in front of the biggest audience they've ever experienced in the U.S. Festival in San Bernardino. The show was the last show with Mick Jones of The Clash. September 1983, Strummer and Simonon fired Jones on the grounds problematic behaviors and aspirations of different music. Jones lost a big role in the downfall of the band. Jones went on to form Big Audio Dynamite. Strummer and Simonon held auditions and recruited a young guitarist Nick Sheppard and Vince White. The Clash are just starting the first tour in January 1984 with new material and the cost to himself. The tour is called Out of Control Tour. Musically, the new lineup was able to recreate the intensity of the original lineup, but the chemistry between old and new members are less synergy. Band tours run continuously and declared the new album is ready to be released. Cut the Crap was released with a cool reception, although it occupies a position higher than Big Audio Dynamite's first album in U.S. chart. Cut the Crap and then removed from the history of The Clash and only "This Is England" which accompanied the compilation album. Disillusion with the Cut the Crap, Strummer took the band busking around England and Scotland, playing for free alongside a road and a bar.
